In June Russian Doc will be screening six shorts by documentary filmmaker Mikhail Zheleznikov (born in 1972), whose video work has been exhibited in the Museum of the Moving Image New York, the National Art Center in Tokyo, and the Museum of Modern Art Erarta in St. Petersburg. They‘re about growing up under socialism. When a child discusses the history of St. Petersburg, truths come to light that an adult wouldn‘t dare discuss. The adults ponder about transcendental grass and the strange situation of not being able to fly anywhere at the airport. People of all classes and ages meet at a general store.
