Josef Koudelka, a czech photographer whose iconic images of the soviet forces entering Prague in 1968 made him world-famous, is shocked. It is the 27-foot wall erected by Israel in the West Bank which aroused this emotional reaction. Taking part in a large-scale photography project, and with the (then) student Gilas Baram as an assistant, Koudelka begins documenting anew. Meanwhile Baram is creating a film of his own, documenting Koudelka at work, conversing with his students, as well as their mutual journey through a "holy land" marked by violence and conflict.
