In a future where time travel is possible but illegal, the mob are using it to get rid of people. The victims are sent 30 years into the past where they are met by "loopers", well-paid hitmen who assassinate and dispose of them. Joe (Joseph Gordon Levitt) is such a looper and he is good at what he does but he realises that he is in trouble when he fails to complete his final assignment: killing his self from the future (Bruce Willis).
